THE 405
British multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Novo Amor aka Ali Lacey follows up his acclaimed 2014 debut EP 'Woodgate NY' (written and recorded between a converted barn in the Lake District and his home in Wales) with beautifully melancholic new single 'Anchor' - a haunting acoustic meditation perfectly designed to soundtrack the fading summer and the oncoming autumn. Over the past year alone, Lacey has grabbed the attention of NME, Indie Shuffle, Hillydilly, NPR, Dezeen Mag, Earmilk, The Line Of Best Fit, Digital Spy, Under The Radar, Stereofox and Q while his videos have been featured by YouTube Channels such as La Belle Musique, Mr. Suicide Sheep, Mor Net and more. Novo Amor's version of the Guns 'N' Roses classic 'Welcome To The Jungle' - recorded especially for the 2015 'AXE/Lynx Black' advertising campaign - has reached over 1 Million plays on Spotify plus airplay from Dermot O'Leary (BBC Radio 2). The latest Expedia advert uses Lacey's song 'From Gold', the lead track from the 'Woodgate, NY' EP, and his songs have featured in TV shows including BONES, Teen Mom, Made In Chelsea, Saving Hope and others.
The autumnal drift of 'Anchor' is a fine demonstration of his art; as well as building on the precocious accomplishment of his earlier work, it illustrates the rapid evolution of his songcraft, poised perfectly between the ethereal and the earthy. Aside from his songwriting, Lacey is also adept in the field of sound design and often incorporates this into his production by using unconventional recording techniques and 'found' objects as instruments. None of which detracts from the songwriting skill at the music's core. As one of Lacey's heroes, jazz genius Duke Ellington once said, "If it sounds good, it IS good."
Earlier this year Novo Amor performed a 13 date headlining tour of Germany and Switzerland. The rest of 2015 sees production on a full-length collaboration album. In the meantime he offers 'Anchor' as a tantalising taste of things to come.
