Dr C Bhaktavatsala Rao holds a Ph.D. Degree in Industrial Management and an M. Tech. Degree in Industrial Engineering, both from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Chennai, and a B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati.
Dr CB Rao has 42 years of diversified experience in strategic and operational leadership of large reputed companies in India, including subsidiaries of global MNCs. His last assignments (2010-15) were as Managing Director and Executive Chairman of Hospira India, now a Pfizer Company. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Managing Director of Orchid Pharma (1998-2010) and Head of Corporate Planning of Ashok Leyland (1977-98). His starting career assignments (1974-78) were in State Bank of India, Tata Motors and Scooters India where he held executive and managerial responsibilities.
Dr CB Rao has led the companies he was associated with on paths of rapid growth and value creation, with organic and inorganic integration, diversification and expansion initiatives. Dr Rao is a business leader with deep roots in pharmaceutical and automobile industries, with a strong grasp over all functional domains, and an overarching strategic orientation. He is a prolific writer with over 130 publications in economic and business dailies and refereed journals to his credit. He runs his own management blog "Strategy Musings" (cbrao2008.blogspot.com).
