The book, written in Hindi, is a magnum opus from the author Utkarsh. It is a fiction set after the fall of Ravana, the king of Lanka, after being defeated by Lord Rama. After Ravana's decline, King Bali is sent to the underworld by Vamana. On his departure, peace is restored and humans and demons live in harmony with each other for centuries until Bhairavnath, the demon master, realizes that a capable scion of King Bali has taken over the throne of the underworld. Due to the mind games played by Bhairavnath, King Bali's scion, King Markesh, is influenced and raged and decides to wage a war against the humans.
On this side of the war lie four furious warriors - Akhand, Tejasvi, Suryam, and Yugandhar. Tejasvi, of all, has a personal vengeance on King Markesh, who killed Tejasvi's father; while King Markesh is furious because of the killing of his human-wife by ancestors of Tejasvi. Influenced by personal vengeances, a war is unleashed among the humans, the demons, and the Nagas for five days. What happens in the war forms the rest of the story. Utkarsh Srivastava, from childhood, was fond of drawing sketches of mythological heroes of the Ramayana as well as the Mahabharata. But when he realized the deep meaning of these epics, he started writing about them from 10th standard and within a year, he wrote two novels in his diaries and titled them as Mahayudh, but did not publish. After four years, he realized that he could do better with that story and again started enhancing the previous story, and as a result, the series named 'Rankshetram' is amongst his readers.
