Nonprofit Crowdfunding Site ENDcrowd.com Launches Six New Campaigns to Help Survivors of Sex Trafficking in America
Platform Partners with Documentary In Plain Sight to Raise Money for Survivor Aftercare Programs.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 08, 2015 - It's estimated that there are currently more than 35 million people globally who are victims of human trafficking. ENDcrowd.com launched this past October as a united online front fighting these atrocities. Working with generous supporters from around the world, the nonprofit crowdfunding website has already fully funded nine campaigns within its first 90 days - a total of nearly $75,000 for specific projects combating the slavery epidemic at the source.
For the start of 2015, ENDcrowd.com is leveraging that early success with the launch of six new campaigns in partnership with the documentary film In Plain Sight. The film debunks the common American belief that human trafficking happens somewhere else, somewhere far away. In fact, it happens right here in the United States, right "in plain sight."
Throughout the film, American sex trafficking survivors share their harrowing experiences. In the midst of these stories, hope and freedom emerge. At the heart of the film are six modern-day abolitionists who founded nonprofit aftercare homes and assistance programs that have a profound impact on these and countless other survivors right here in the United States.
"This documentary will open your eyes to where human trafficking is actually happening and how widespread it is," said ENDcrowd.com founder, Joe Schmidt. "The average age for girls being trafficked into prostitution in the United States is 12 to 14 years old. This heart wrenching fact is a huge part of why I got involved in the fight against human trafficking, created ENDcrowd.com, and now partnered with the beautifully told documentary, In Plain Sight."
ENDcrowd.com is the official fundraising partner of In Plain Sight and helps viewers directly support the homes and assistance programs featured in the film. The partnership includes 75 screening events scheduled to-date with opportunities to contribute to the organizations through six newly launched campaigns. These campaigns include:
- Renovation of a Texas emergency shelter for trafficking victims in order to assess the unique needs women have as they are referred to the program.
- Transformation of an aftercare house in Arkansas to create an environment that is not only secure but also a welcoming, comfortable home for survivors.
- A vehicle for a Texas aftercare home to transport survivors safely to appointments and extracurricular activities.
- An advocacy program in Tennessee to educate girls on Internet safety, healthy decision-making, the dangers of life on the street and more.
- Expansion of extended trauma therapy programs in northern California to combat the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional effects of sex trafficking on child victims in America.
- A job readiness program in Maryland that helps survivors learn necessary skills for obtaining and maintaining a job in their communities.
Schmidt continued, "We fell in love with the film because it is rooted in hope. Every great movement must have hope that we can and will win this fight. Join us and donate any dollar amount to these six new campaigns on ENDcrowd.com. You can also sign up to host a screening of the documentary at your church, school or community center by visiting the In Plain Sight website at inplainsightfilm.com."
Like Kickstarter, ENDcrowd.com harnesses the power of the public to raise funds, but it does so with a focused mission of putting an end to human trafficking. The campaigns are put forward by established nonprofits for a particular project that will have an immediate impact to help prevent further slavery or support survivors. The website provides background about each campaign so visitors can support ones they feel passionately about, making donations in any dollar amount.

About In Plain Sight
In Plain Sight is a three-part campaign to help stop sex trafficking across the United States including a documentary, study guide and benefit album. Executive produced and narrated by Natalie Grant, the film seeks to raise awareness of the thousands of women and children who are forced, coerced or deceived into the commercial sex trade each year in the United States. By focusing on the work of six female abolitionists, the film opens the eyes of the average American to what's happening "in plain sight" and highlights stories of hope that are emerging from the darkness.
