Nine New GB Cosmetic Standards Released in China
Nine new GB testing standards for cosmetic products have been released in China as part of a batch of 374 new national standards.
- (1888PressRelease) August 17, 2019 - Manufacturers should be aware that China has released nine new GB standards for the testing of cosmetic products. The nine standards were included in a list of 374 national standards approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Standardization Administration (SA) on June 4, 2019.
The standards are:
1. GB/T 37544-2019 - Determination of 6 kinds of phenolic antibacterial agent including o-Cymen-5-ol in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
2. GB/T 37545-2019 - Determination of 38 kinds of permitted colorants in
cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
3. GB/T 37625-2019 - Inspecting rules for cosmetics
4. GB/T 37626-2019 - Determination of 9 forbidden penicillins including
amoxicillin in cosmetics – liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry
5. GB/T 37628-2019 - Determination of astragaloside, paeoniflorin, forsythin and forsythoside A in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
6. GB/T 37640-2019 - Determination of chloroacetaldehyde,2,4-dihydroxy-3-methylbenzaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, acetophenone, 2-pentylidenecyclohexanone and glutaral in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
7. GB/T 37641-2019 - Determination of 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-O-β-D-glucoside in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
8. GB/T 37644-2019 - Determination of oxyquinoline and nitroxoline in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography
9. GB/T 37649-2019 - Determination of thimerosal and diphenylmercury in cosmetics – high performance liquid chromatography-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry
These standards represent the first time the use of phenolic antibacterial agent, thimerosal and diphenylmercury have been regulated under a GB national standard. They are used as preservatives in cosmetic products.
This is also the first time a standard covering 38 permitted forms of colorant used in cosmetics has been released. Previously, there was only GB/T 34806-2017, which focused on prohibited colorants.
The other test methods focus on prohibited substances (e.g. antibiotics), restricted substances (e.g. glutaral).
Stakeholders should be aware these standards will apply from January 1, 2020.
