Nikki Blonsky Joins "From Broadway With Love: A Benefit Concert For Sandy Hook"
Nikki Blonsky, Stars, Producers, Writers, And Directors Come Together To Benefit The United Way Of Western Connecticut's Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
- New Haven-Meriden, CT (1888PressRelease) January 10, 2013 - On January 28th, 2013 Nikki Blonsky (Golden Globe nominated for Hairspray), will take the stage alongside entertainment legends, Linda Eder ("Jekyll & Hyde"), Brian Stokes Mitchell (Tony winner for "Kiss Me Kate" and three-time nominee) composer Stephen Schwartz (six-time Tony nominee, including "Wicked," "Godspell"), Mickey Dolenz ("Aida," member of The Monkees), composer Marc Shaiman (Tony Award winner for "Hairspray;" TV's "Smash"), Michael Cerveris (Tony winner for "Assassins," four-time Tony nominee ,including "Evita" and "Sweeney Todd") and Christine Ebersole (Tony winner for "Grey Gardens"), and many more to put on a benefit show for Sandy Hook.
Blonsky will be performing a solo for the show from one of her past works, show producer Michael A. Alden (2012 Tony Award winning Producer) is "honored to have Nikki Blonsky perform at our benefit concert with the one and only Marc Shaiman! Nikki's such a remarkable talent with a beautiful heart!". 2013 is expected to be a big year for this Golden Globe nominated actress. Nikki is currently awaiting the release of her newest film projects, The English Teacher and Geography Club due to premiere in the early months of 2013 as well as her TV debut on NBC's hit TV show "Smash".
Newtown area residents Brett Boles and Broadway producer Van Dean, initiated the event in hopes of lending a hand to the families and community affected by the recent tragedy that took place in Newtown. All proceeds and donations will go to United Way of Western Connecticut's Sandy Hook School Support Fund.
Having a mom who works in an Elementary school, the Sandy Hook tragedy hit close to home for Nikki and she is honored to be a part of this momentous and worthwhile event, "My heart goes out to the families and everyone effected by this catastrophe. If my performance can help bring smiles to faces and lead towards healing then this will be the most rewarding and heartfelt performance I could ever give."

About Nikki Blonsky
Blonsky was born and raised in Great Neck, Long Island, New York and graduated from the Great Neck Village School, a five-time Grammy Foundation Signature School where she was trained in music and theater. Blonsky's performing credits include 'Teri O Shaughnessy' in Ugly Betty, 'Rhonda Baxter' in Harold, Dolores in 'Waiting for Forever', 'Madame Tanardeau' in Les Miserables, 'Mrs. Lovett' in Sweeney Todd, 'Kate' in Kiss Me, Kate, 'Rebecca Hillicker' in The Laramie Project and the title role in Bizet's Carmen. In addition to being an actress, singer and dancer, she is an advocate for the LGBT community as well as the anti-bullying movement. Blonsky, who has fallen victim to bullying throughout her life, recently traveled to Washington DC, with Children Uniting Nations to speak to congress about children's rights issues, specifically bullying and keeping physical education in schools.
