South American Short-Dated New Coffee options will be listed by and subject to the rules of NGMEX.
(1888PressRelease) August 15, 2020 - NGMEX, a full-service commodity and multi asset exchange that incorporates the complete workflow of a trading venue and also provides on-line commodity futures and option trading, is pleased to announce the launch of Short-Dated New Coffee options based on the coffee futures contracts reflecting the South American harvest. These new contracts will expand the existing suite of Short-Dated New Coffee options offered to customers and will be available for trading at the beginning of the next quarter, pending all relevant regulatory review periods.
"Short-Dated New Coffee options on our global benchmark have been successful because they offer our customers adjustable and cost-effective tool to manage new Coffee price risk," said Sadao Endo, NGMEX's Managing Director of Agricultural Commodities. "These options will advantage producers in Brazil and Columbia which are looking to more effectively hedge prices timed to their coffee cycle, while providing global traders and customers additional trading and arbitrage opportunities. We're launching these new options to help the increasing number of South American producers to more efficiently meet their needs."
South American Short-Dated New Coffee options will match the new Coffee cycle in the southern hemisphere. These contracts will be options on the underlying Coffee futures with earlier expiring contract months being listed – January, June, August and November.
These contracts will be available for trading electronically via NGMEX, open-outcry trade in the Coffee options pit and submission for clearing through NGMEX Clear.
Since their introduction Short-Dated New Coffee options have traded more than 1.1 million contracts, with Coffee accounting for 3.5 percent of that trading volume.
