- (1888PressRelease) June 29, 2011 - Robert Royal of the Cleveland Browns and his NFL colleagues will head back to New Orleans for his 5th Annual T.E.A.M. (Together Each Achieves More) camp. This highly anticipated free football and cheer camp for New Orleans youth will take place on Friday, July 1st from 10am - 3pm at the Cut Off Center, 660 Belgrade St, New Orleans.
Campers, ages 8-18, will interact with players as they run agility drills, and learn offensive and defensive fundamentals. This year's camp will also include an expanded cheer camp with cheerleaders from the NBA and NFL. Off the field, Royal will lead a mentoring session and encourage campers to make the right choices in life.
For 2011, The Robert Royal Foundation is partnering with Gulf Coast Social Services to include a special initiative on childhood obesity. GCS is hoping to shine a light on the growing problem and provide information to parents to help counter the condition.
Royal, a Louisiana native and LSU alum, will also take the camp's mentoring component to a special group of youth. The camp's participating NFL players will accompany him to Bridge City Center, a youth correctional facility near New Orleans, to speak with the juvenile detainees. Their aim is to share their stories and empower them to make better decisions in the future.
"Each year we set the bar higher for the camp, and I'm definitely excited about the Bridge City Center visit" Royal said, "These kids need to know, whether they are on the field on Saturday or at BCC that they can overcome any obstacles. I think by talking to them and sharing our collective past, we can motivate and inspire them."
Participating players include: Robaire Smith (Browns), George Wilson (Bills), Santana Dotson (Packers), Joe Haden (Browns) and others. Monica Cravinas (Cowboys), Deryn Derbigny (Hornets) and Candice Stewart (Saints) will lead the cheer camp.
Campers can register at the field the day of the camp. Parents or Guardians will need to sign camper information form and release. The camp will provide breakfast, lunch, and drinks as well as gift bags and photos with players.
The camp is sponsored in part by the City of New Orleans, NORD, Gulf Coast Social Services, LaChip, Whole Foods, Crescent City Graphics, Chad Smith, Dicks Sporting Goods, Smoothie King, M & I Bank, NFL Players Association, NFL, NFL Players Association, Priority Sports, Performance Enhancement Professionals, Academy Sports, Popeye's, Coca Cola, Wise Chips and Algiers Booster Club.
