New Zealand iOS game developer Little Geek announces release of maiden title 'TrapIt'
Little Geek combines old school arcade action with iOS accessibility in their first ever iOS title TrapIt. Easy to play but hard to master, TrapIt will have you tense and on edge, but always coming back for more.
- (1888PressRelease) April 03, 2011 - TrapIt is a casual-arcade title where your goal is simple; isolate all the speeding prisms before your time runs out in order to advance to the next level. By splitting unfilled areas in two with a swipe, you can separate prisms from each other or fill in areas of the level. However, if you progress too slowly, new prisms will spawn. The more area you have filled by the time you complete the level, the more points you get.
"It's very simple gameplay." says Aaron Koolen-Bourke, developer and director of Little Geek.
"Being on an iOS device we knew we had to make it accessible but we wanted to make a game with that old arcade tension that gets your heart racing."
And tense it is. Throughout the game you are constantly reminded of your progress with little onscreen messages telling you to "Hurry Up" or that you are "Approaching the HighScore". Your time limits do not leave much time for sightseeing, and between levels you are lucky if you get 2 seconds to rest.
"It's interesting seeing people play.", says Aaron.
"Those that can calm themselves down and get into a sort of zone are the ones that do the best. It's sort of like Tetris in that way. At the harder levels Tetris is insane, but when you're in the zone pieces seem to move themselves into place."
Despite this intensity TrapIt doesn't force you into one style of play. You can decide to finish the level easily, or try and fill more area for more points - taking the risk of losing a life. You could try a difficult split to get a powerup you see or just keep it safe. Color bonuses also provide extra challenge - isolate 2 or more prisms of the same color into the same area for valuable extra bonus points. Or not, it's up to you.
TrapIt is available on the iTunes store at a US$0.99 launch special.
