- (1888PressRelease) April 07, 2011 - The popular photography website, FreePhotoCourse.com, has formally opened a new artistic photography exhibit that celebrates the energy, romance and soul of New York City. The exhibit, entitled 'NYC Exposed', is a collection of five galleries of powerful images by professional photographers and serious photo enthusiasts from New York, California and abroad.
'NYC Exposed' is the first in a series of future online exhibits under the moniker 'Great Cities Exposed'. What better way to launch the series than 'exposing' what many people would argue is the greatest city in the world?
FreePhotoCourse.com put out a Call for Submissions in early January that created a buzz, resulting in far more picture submissions than expected. Stephen Kristof, Manager of Communications and Creative Development for the site, says, "Our goal was to create an online gallery that would be something far more than a mere pictorial record of iconic NYC scenes. What we wanted, instead, was to curate a permanent online exhibit that is unique, artistically expressive and emotionally potent."
The photos in the exhibit certainly hit the bullseye when it comes to these targets. While some famous NYC icons, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the New York Public Library and Times Square are profiled, it's the way that the pictures are composed that make them far more compelling than something you'd commonly see in a tour book. Kristof explains, "Some of the pictures are unexpected, but when you think about it, they absolutely shout out the New York experience. For example, there's this one shot of a pair of legs and bare feet sticking out of an apartment's open window...as they say, only in New York!"
Many of the photos shine because of their use of light and shadows. Others capture moments that are exquisitely human. All photos are accompanied by short articles that critique the merits of the photographs, and that explore the history, meaning and context of the scenes.
The NYC Exposed exhibit will have a permanent online presence in the Great Cities Exposed series. You can see this exhibit by visiting: http://freephotocourse.com/nyc-exposed-photo-exhibit.html
