About the Author:
Nicholas Schmidle is a Bernard Schwartz Fellow at the New America Foundation and a regular contributor to The New York Times Magazine, where he writes about transnational crime, militancy, and foreign affairs. He also writes for The Atlantic, Slate, The New Republic, T: Travel, Smithsonian, and many other publications. Schmidle is the author of To Live or to Perish Forever - Two Tumultuous Years in Pakistan and the recipient of the 2008 Kurt Schork Award for international journalism, based on his work in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and son.
