- (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2013 - Describli, a new online community where writers hone their descriptive skills and connect with others, is disrupting the way book marketing is done. The company hopes to connect readers with writers in meaningful ways, so that authors who don't have traditional marketing or publishing teams can gain a following for their writing. Describli launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo on October 22 to raise $20,000 so that they can help writers to get noticed and sell their books.
The new company, based in Arlington, Virginia, combines the ideas of a writing critique site and a social media platform for authors, creating what they call a "revolution of writing awesomeness". Writers gain a following purely based on their responses to daily prompts and performance in the interactive story game. They can practice their craft, and beat writers block, all while becoming known and loved by Describli readers. Authors can even link to their other work or personal website, so that their followers can read more.
Laura Fredericks, founder and CEO of the budding community, said: "We believe that Describli has an interesting part to play as new connections are formed between social media, digital storytelling, and new technologies. There are some exciting things happening in the publishing space, and it's often very easy now for writers to publish their work. However, they're finding that getting the word out about their new writing is harder than ever due to the volume of books being published. Describli combines a writing critique site with a social media and marketing tool, to create something entirely new in the space. Writers can show samples of their work to new readers, can promote their latest work, and can create meaningful relationships with their fans. We're really excited to see how the community uses it".
The $20,000 raised through IndieGoGo.com will be used to complete the public launch version of the site and add author marketing features. The funds will also be used to create mobile and tablet versions of the site, and expanding on the resources offered to users. Those who give to the campaign can earn rewards including Describli merchandise, a ticket to the Beta, and Skype calls or signed books from well-known authors.
