New Science-Based Illustrated Children's Book Helps Soothe Back-to-School Separation Anxiety and Improve Academic Performance
A Well-Known Clinical Child Psychologist and Local Learning Express Toys Store Owner, Both South Florida Moms, Offer Innovative School-Stress Relief Solution that Also Improves Parent-Teacher and Parent-Child Communication.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2014 - As families prepare for a new school year, millions of children nationwide experience fears about starting or going back to school. Clinically called "separation anxiety," this can be just as hard on the caregiver as it is on the child.
Dr. Ruby Andrew, child psychologist and assistant professor of clinical pediatrics, and longtime friend, Fort Lauderdale Learning Express Toys store owner Kirsten Brown, decided it was time to support families using all they have learned at home and in the workplace. As mothers themselves, they combined personal and professional experiences with children experiencing separation anxiety to write an illustrated children's book, The School Fairy: The Tale of the Fairy Who Made School Unscary (TriMark Press, 2014).
Rooted in child psychology, The School Fairy tells a whimsical tale about the Tooth Fairy's youngest sibling, who first appears cheerless but soon discovers her life purpose: bringing fun back into school, creating laughter and joy for children along the way.
The book features Dr. Ruby's Official Parent Guide, a section for its adult readers, which explains the science behind the School Fairy, including FAQs by parents, the benefits of using behavior management strategies, and tips for improving communication with children and teachers.
Each copy of The School Fairy also includes a customizable, School Fairy-signed Certificate of Achievement and colorful sheet of stickers, which young readers use to decorate a treasure box as they demonstrate good behavior at school throughout the week, thus making the most out of the School Fairy's story.
"The School Fairy worked for us and we know she can help you," said co-authors Andrew and Brown. "The whimsical aspect of the school fairy really resonates with children."
