Consumption of polyester staple fibre has been seen increasing at an annual growth rate of 5.3% between 2000 and 2006. In 2006, it increased 11.4% to 11.3 million tons whereas supply increased simultaneously by 10.3% to 11.30 million tons.

India, Indonesia, South Korea and Taiwan are the other major producers of polyester in Asia. Outside Asia, USA and Turkey are the only dominant producers
