New REC blog created by Waiting Room Solutions to provide information and facilitate discussion
Waiting Room Solutions has launched a new blog focusing on the HITECH Act's Regional Extension Centers (RECs). The blog addresses their purpose, how they are funded, and their implications for the advancement of health information technology.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) July 28, 2010 - Waiting Room Solutions® (WRS) (www.waitingroomsolutions.com), a leading web-based EHR and PM provider, has created a new blog centering around the Regional Extension Centers (RECs) that have become a relevant new addition to the healthcare industry. With the newly released final rule on meaningful use on July 13, Regional extension centers are offering guidance, technical assistance and information on best practices to support and accelerate health care providers' efforts to become meaningful users of Electronic Health Records (EHRs). The blog provides background information on the process of creating and funding these RECs, as well as an explanation of their purpose and how they will increase the spread of health information technology. In addition to educating visitors, The REC blog will also provide an opportunity for readers to express comments or questions they may have regarding the REC program. This portion of the blog allows providers to benefit from the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and shared concerns with their peers (http://www.waitingroomsolutions.com/wrs/regional-extension-centers-arra-rec).
The recently passed HITECH Act authorized the creation of a Health Information Technology Extension Program, and under this program Health Information Technology Regional Extension Centers (RECs) and a national Health Information Technology Research Center (HITRC) were formed. Through the "meaningful use" of these EHR systems, practices can qualify for the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) incentives. The REC program will reach every region of the US through the use of participating non-profit organizations, with an estimated 70 or more centers serving at least 100,000 providers nationwide.
"Through the creation of this blog, Waiting Room Solutions hopes to increase awareness of the REC resources, which users can employ to ensure the "meaningful use" of their software, and as a result, the fulfillment of incentive criteria," said Dr. Lawrence Gordon, CEO of Waiting Room Solutions.
