New Letter-Sharing Website Revives the Old-Fashioned Open Letter
The Open Mailbox (www.theopenmailbox.com), a new social website that features open letters posted by website visitors, announces its public launch this week, just in time for the seasonal letters to Santa.

The Open Mailbox (www.theopenmailbox.com) hopes to revitalize the lost art of letter writing by offering a social networking platform for writers everywhere to share their letters online. The website features 'open letters', which are letters written to an individual, but intended to be read by a public audience.
"A letter can be poetic without being a poem and it can tell a story without being a novel," said 23-year-old Spencer Ozbun, creator of The Open Mailbox. "All the letters posted on The Open Mailbox are submitted anonymously, which allows writers the freedom to express their thoughts, state their opinions, and share their experiences openly to the public and places the focus of the reader on the words themselves."
The website began as a class project while Ozbun attended Ball State University as an undergraduate.
"I had to create a website that featured submitted content, so I asked my friends, family, and classmates to write a letter to anyone or anything and I would post it online for everyone to read," said Ozbun. "During the project I received over 100 submissions with topics ranging all the way from the ducks in the park to a failing marriage."
