New Hunting Magazine Showcases 55 Million Acres of Hunting & Fishing Opportunities on Indian Reservations
New Hunting, Fishing and Outdoor Recreational Magazine Enters The Competitive Business Of Magazine Publishing. Hunting The Rez As A Business Shows A Promising Future As The Now Quarterly Magazine Is Only One Portion Of The Overall Dynamic Business Model.
- Great Falls, MT (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2011 - Hunting The Rez Magazine first hit the news stands in the Winter of 2010. The Native American owned magazine highlights the hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities that are available on the 55 million acres in the U.S. and Canada known as "Indian Country."
The magazine features 3-5 different Indian Nations or Reservations in each of it's quarterly issues. Along with showcasing the various opportunities for hunters, anglers and general outdoor recreation enthusiasts, the magazine also provides insights into each of the featured Indian Nation's local culture, residents and history.
Hunting The Rez also provides in-depth information about the surrounding area along with the area's businesses. The magazine has quickly situated itself as the go to source for information about hunting North American Indian Lands.
The word "Rez" is a slang term used by Tribal members and is short for Reservation. "Hunting The Rez was a name we decided early on in our planning stages that we thought most closely conveyed what we are about and what message we wanted to convey."
"We've attended several trade shows and have met with several tribal governments to gauge interest and to gain support and so far, we've been met with nothing but positive feedback and support." says Jason Belcourt co-owner and editor of the start up magazine.
Along with becoming the premiere source for information on hunting in Indian Country, Belcourt says the endeavor has quickly turned into business opportunities that he and his staff were not expecting.
Hunting The Rez is more than another hunting magazine. We've had to dedicate staff to provide a service for the interested hunters who want us to help them put together awesome hunts on Indian Lands. So, we started our brokered hunt program. We've also conducted online auctions and sold Deer hunts and a Big Horn sheep hunting package. We provided that service to Tribal Fish and Game Departments and that is quickly turning into another division of our enterprise. Along with that, we're in the middle of our first Outdoor Film School which is a week long course teaching amateur picture takers how to be professional outdoor videographers. Our next training will be for our first hunting and fishing guide school. So, we've got a lot of irons in the fire and we're making a lot of progress." Belcourt added.
Tribal Fish and Game Departments from the U.S. and Canada have taken a keen interest in the magazine. Not all of the estimated 565 Indian Nations and Reservations offer hunting and fishing to Non-Tribal members but the Tribal Fish and Game Departments that do allow hunting and fishing are realizing that the renewable resource that fish and wildlife offer, are quickly becoming a much needed revenue source for their governments, community members and local businesses.
Hunting The Rez Magazine and their staff have taken on the role of liaison between hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts and Tribal Fish and Game Departments. Along with his business partner James "Midge" The Boy, Belcourt says that it is their goal for the magazine to not only provide a resource for hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts but to also become a leader and a voice for Conservation
and Stewardship in Indian Country.
