New England Music Pioneers Battle For Earth In Sci-Fi Full-Length
New England-based 1974 is set to release their epic concept album "1974 & The Battle For the Lazer Fortress", an hour long musical battlefield where the forces of good struggle to triumph over their own humanity.
- Hartford, CT (1888PressRelease) March 07, 2011 - In a distant dystopian future, humans have engineered a way to clone their own bodies and save their consciousness on to a computer. While rendering death an archaic memory may sound like a godsend, this technology is stolen by the military and used to enslave the human race. Having lost control of their replication abilities, and with a lazer grid surrounding Earth letting nothing in or out, our planet becomes a prison. The only hope lies in five brave men. The battle begins.
Spaceships, clones, infinite life extension, a battle for the last shreds of humanity…and lazers. Lots of lazers. This is only a glimpse into the world of "1974 & The Battle For the Lazer Fortress", the ambitious new concept album from CT locals, 1974. Bred on sci-fi and old prog-rock records, this five piece outfit has created an album that can only be described as epic. In an era of homogenized short pop hits and even shorter attention spans, this daring ten track full-length clocks in at a little under an hour. But don't underestimate it as another pretentious bore-fest. They paint this album with colors from all over the music spectrum. Whether you like head banging Sabbath riffs or energetic pop-punk hooks, there is definitely something for everyone in this record.
Two years in the making, "1974 & The Battle For the Lazer Fortress" was released on February 18th of this year at a big CD release blowout. This concert broke new ground, being the first concert of theirs to be streaming live the internet. About 300 were in attendance, and hundreds more watched from home. This year is looking to be a big one for 1974.
