- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) June 02, 2011 - YouTube video blog personalities have been tapped for the new indie social networking comedy, "Amy Alyson Fans," which parodies the highs and lows of online fame. The Directors Guild of America (DGA: 7920 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90046) is set to hold an Industry screening on Friday, June 3rd at 3 p.m.
A few years ago, fame required a prominent story in a legitimate news source in order to make someone an overnight star. But, given enough online visibility and internet buzz, anything or anyone can now be newsworthy.
The film stars Cooper Harris ("Meteor Apocalypse") and features actual YouTube video bloggers, known for their loud mouths and celebrity commentary, as they follow the film's fictional main character, Amy Alyson (Harris), as her career skyrockets thanks to the popularity of her online fan site, secretly operated by her boyfriend. Josh Sussman (Glee) and Lochlyn Munro (Scary Movie) also star.
YouTube video bloggers featured in the film include Michael Buckley (youtube.com/whatthebuck), Brittani Louise Taylor (youtube.com/BrittaniLouiseTaylor), Chris Thompson (youtube.com/supricky06) and Elle (youtube.com/whatsupelle).
"It's exciting to play a character whose experience is close to my own," said Harris who, like Amy Alyson, achieved recent notoriety with her work in an action film for the SyFy network and a popular new online series. She continues, "I'm happy the film shows the amazing power that social media and online visibility can have." Links and further details available at http://www.CooperHarris.net.
"The film is about online celebrity and how having internet fame, notoriety, and the most "clicks" lends you credibility in the real world," said the film's director Jonathan Bowen. "Almost on a daily basis 'Joe and Jane Nobodies' are plucked from the screens of laptops and turned into common household names," he adds.
