New Book Reveals Winter Park's History
Local professors and their students tell history of city through vintage images.
- Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) February 05, 2015 - New from Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series is Winter Park, a collaboration of two professors and two students from Rollins College. Gathering images from Rollins College, Winter Park Library, Winter Park Historical Society, Hannibal Square Heritage Center, and numerous local private collections; Jim Norris, Claire Strom, Danielle Johnson and Sydney Marshall pen the history of the first "planned" town in Florida using more than 200 vintage images.
The book showcases the rich, diverse history of Winter Park and how the community has thrived through war and disasters. The authors stated, "Over the years, Winter Park has attracted many famous women and men, who have lent their energies, collections, and money to augmenting is unique aura."
"The pages that follow chronicle numerous stories of Winter Park's history. We hope we have captured many of the events and people that have made our community distinctive over its first 80 years," the authors said.
