Vietnam vet, lifelong registered Republican and freelance journalist, Hugh E. Scott, hammers John McCain with one of the HOTTEST anti-McCain sites on the Web.
Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2008 - Following its August 1 launch date, UnfitMcCain.com registered 1,018,130 hits for the month, making the anti-McCain site one of the hottest on the Web.
The site’s creator/editor, Hugh E. Scott, freelance journalist, Vietnam veteran and lifelong registered Republican, attributes the unusually high activity to a desire by voters for more information about the “real” John McCain.
The Web site’s home page banner reads, “Eight reasons why you should not vote for Senator McCain.”
Reason #6 is: “McCain distorted his so-called heroic POW record and exploited it for political gain.”
Reason #6 was why Scott, a former McCain fan, quit supporting him in May 2008, after the Arizona senator began boasting at town hall meetings that he had refused early release from North Vietnam, indicating extraordinary bravery on his part.
In truth, Scott contends, McCain had absolutely no choice in the matter.
For one thing, he had been ordered by his senior U.S. camp commander not to accept repatriation unless all other POWs could go home as well. Also, had McCain violated the order and gone back to the United States early, he would have humiliated his family and ruined his Navy career.
Scott was also disturbed by the increasing number of McCain flip-flops on major campaign issues.
One of the most grievous changes of mind concerns his desire to make the 2001 Bush income tax cuts permanent. Once opposed to the cuts, which McCain said unfairly favored wealthy people, he now believes the top 1% of American wage earners deserve a $32,000 tax refund, including himself, while the bottom 20% should only get back $21.
In another example of major flip-flopping, McCain asserted numerous times that he wanted a vice president who was ready to be “commander-in-chief on day one.” However, when it came time to make his most important decision as a presidential candidate, McCain picked hockey mom Sarah Palin, who has no national security or foreign affairs experience.
In summary, Scott argues compellingly through his facts-based Web site that, far from being a principled patriot, John McCain is a pandering politician who will say anything to win an election.
As for his “maverick” reputation, Scott says it comes from being “a grumpy senior citizen who enjoys making people angry, both Democrats and Republicans.”
