New Age Pianist Hits The Road For Unity
New Age piano concert events will benefit the Unity outreach program.
- Omaha, NE-IA (1888PressRelease) March 07, 2012 - Contemporary piano player Donovan Johnson is hitting the road this year, and will be playing concerts in many different locations nationwide. Touring isn't anything new for Donovan, he's done it many times before. What's new this year is the fundraising campaign that he's taking on the road with him. "Tour For Unity" is the name of the campaign, and it's a fundraiser for the Unity International Outreach program.
Donovan has been an active member in the Unity Church of Omaha NE. There, he developed a passion for the Unity message, which is best describes as "New Thought" and Practical Christianity." The teachings that inspired Donovan were those of acceptance and tolerance of all religious paths, while maintaining your own spiritual belief system. He embraced the idea that everyone possesses a "Christ consciousness" within them, and that by cultivating that consciousness, we learn to love and empower one another. Donovan believes that it is this very idea that will lead to our ultimate salvation-from ourselves.
"There is so much happening on this planet right now" explains Donovan. And we're at a point technologically that could harm us in a way that's virtually unimaginable. Politically, people don't know who to trust. They don't always know what to believe." Donovan explains that by developing a "Christ consciousness" within each of us, we can save ourselves from making devastating decisions on a global level. "We can, and I'm optimistic that we will. But it all begins on a very personal level, within each one of us. And when we accept our Divine nature, we thrive and prosper. We experience true joy and Spiritual connection. And when that happens, we share with a joyful heart. We become kinder, more accepting, and we care for our neighbors on a global level."
In November 2009, Donovan traveled to Unity headquarters in the Maidenhead England to perform for the Unity UK annual festival. While there, he came to understand the struggle for Unity congregations overseas. "We are very blessed to have an abundance of Unity fellowships here in the U.S. But internationally it's a different story. The message hasn't been heard in many parts of the world. In addition, many countries have tried to start international fellowships and are struggling to support themselves due to the lack of resources available to them. Nigeria is one example of this. And it's up to each of us to do what we can to help."
Donovan made a decision to start a campaign called "Tour For Unity." And after a couple years contemplation, he has put the wheels in motion. "Now is the time. I need to do my part and I have nothing to wait for. In fact, there are people who may be waiting for me (to act)." This year, beginning in April, Donovan will be including the campaign in his tour plans. When performing at Unity churches, Donovan will give a presentation about his experiences in the UK, and what he believes needs to happen next internationally. Money raised at the events will go toward the Unity International Outreach program, and will help to supply resources and materials for the growth of Unity Internationally. This will help to expand the Unity message as well. "It's a great feeling. And I know that, at least in part, it's what I was created for. It's part of my purpose. And I salute that purpose."
