NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton distributed $36,718 in toys to Toys for Tots, Backus Children's Hospital and Salvation Army through their Facebook 'FunRaiser."
- Savannah, GA (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2010 - Demere NeSmith, Dealer Principal of NeSmith Chevrolet Buick GMC in Claxton, GA announced today that the company distributed $36,718 in toys to three local organizations as a result of a 15-day "Facebook FunRaiser that took place December 1st to December 15th. Toys For Tots, Backus Children's Hospital, and Salvation Army received thousands of toys during a celebratory event on Friday, December 17th from 11am-12:30pm at the dealership. Representatives from all three charitable organizations and the media were present to document this fabulous event.
From December 1st to December 15th, NeSmith hosted a 'Facebook FunRaiser' donating a toy in honor of every new person that "liked" their Facebook. Demere NeSmith created the Facebook Toy FunRaiser to give the community an opportunity to reach out and give toys to children in need this Christmas.
Dealer Principal Demere NeSmith said, "Our hearts are filled with such joy knowing that thousands of children will receive a Christmas gift this year from our efforts. Thank you to everyone that participated in the facebook community."
Toys For Tots donations will be distributed in Ft. Stewart, Liberty, Long, Evans, Tattnall, Bulloch, Screven, Emanuel, Candler, Evans and Treutlen Counties. Backus Children's Hospital toy donations will be distributed to admitted and outpatient children receiving care at the hospital. Salvation Army will distribute their toys to children in need throughout Savannah and the surrounding counties.
Marion Platt, Commanding Officer of Salvation Army in Savannah said, "This is making such a tremendous difference. A family that just lost everything in a fire last week will receive some of these toys."
Leah Poole with Toys for Tots in Liberty and Long County added, "This NeSmith donation put us over the top this year. Every single child on our list will receive a toy and stocking stuffer."
