- Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) April 09, 2013 - Nerv Gallery & Studios is pleased to announce the Constellated Breaths exhibition opening featuring interactive video sculpture by Sean Miller and new work by Nerv Gallery & Studios resident artists: Mary Mecca, Rusty Paul Bouvier, and Amy Marie Mahler.
The opening reception for Constellated Breaths is on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. with a 10-minute artist talk at 6:30 p.m. at Nerv Gallery & Studios, 4819 Woodall St., Dallas, Texas 75247.
Sean Miller is an artist who works with sound, video, sculpture and space to explore sensory perception.
Miller earned a Bachelor's Degree in Inter-Media Arts from the College of Santa Fe. His current work explores interdependent relationships between the mind and body. This is realized in the form of an immersive organic architecture where space interacts with sound and video. Breathing can be both an involuntary function of the body as well as a performed action. In both instances, breath is a point of transference or communication between consciousness and corporeality. The collection and spatial fragmentation of breathing sessions projected onto an organic architecture is an attempt to create an immersive, yet distanced representation of this understanding as well as question the notion of the human being as a singular consciousness. Miller is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in New Media at the University of North Texas.
Mary Mecca creates colorful, shamanistic artwork that aims to speak to the natural, indigenous human within us all.
Her work seeks to sneak into the mind of the viewer and break down socially-constructed western concepts of what life is about and what it means to be human. Viewing her pieces is sure to open channels of consciousness in the mind and allow new waves of thinking to permeate the inner being. Mecca, a Dallas native who received her BFA in painting from Texas Tech University, has both exhibited and organized shows at Nerv gallery, with such recent shows as Nerv Art & Fashion and Constructing Perspective.
Rusty Paul Bouvier and Amy Marie Mahler have collaborated to combine graphic design, ceramic/mixed media sculpture, and photography for the Constellated Breaths exhibition. The common thread in the works presented would be that of relationships, i.e., the relationship of a person to his environment, the dialogue between two hearts, and mind versus matter. Through metaphor, humor and symbolism Bouvier and Mahler hope the work strikes a relationship with the viewer. Rusty Paul Bouvier and Amy Marie Mahler are recent transplants to the Dallas art community from southeastern Louisiana. They each hold a BFA from Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana.
According to Mary Mecca, "We're excited to be showing the 'wonder-full' sculpture of Sean Miller and displaying new work from our resident artists!"
Nerv Gallery & Studios is proud to host artist Sean Miller as well as display new work from their own resident artists, Mary Mecca, Rusty Paul Bouvier, and Amy Marie Mahler. The current resident artists use studios within Nerv to produce work, bringing the art straight from the studios into the gallery! Located in the Warehouse District, just north of the Design District, Nerv is a gallery constructed from 100% recycled materials from previously loved sets, walls and trade show booths and includes many unique studio settings as well. Nerv shares a building with Mecca Design & Production which has a panel of artists, carpenters, sculptors, and dream fulfillers on staff to help with creative vision.
