Neitzchean Nihilism Gets A Facelift For The Two-thousands And Surges Fearlessly Onto The Interwebs
Enlightened Romantic Nihilism is not the cynical rejection of belief, but the positive courage to live without it. We are a community of artists, writers, rabble-rousers. Taking submissions for art, writing, personal philosophies, etc.
- (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2011 - Portland, Oregon - Author/artist, Joshua Daniel Bligh (B.F.A.) and painter/scientist Lisa Gitelman have founded and published a new movement called Enlightened Romantic Nihilism (or ERN), a Corvallis/Portland based non-profit organization. ERN prefixes the arts, grandiosity and personality as a reflex to the futility of existence. Co-founder Joshua Daniel Bligh quips that: "Enlightened Romantic Nihilism is not the cynical rejection of belief but the positive courage to live without...When we lose the possibility of a cosmic redemeer, we become peacocks, heroes without a cause, rebels without applause...to the Romantic Nihilist, these things are not abberations, but the point. Each day becomes ornamented with importance, and glistens not as a mantle piece that implicates tomorrow, but because today is the greatest day there has ever been...ERN is a celebration of ephemeral moments, art, dancing in the life-raft and laughing in the face of the firing squad."
The website is not only a vehicle for Bligh and Gitelman's philosophy but a sandbox where artists, writers, and musicians can showcase their work with the potential to sell prints. Weekly meet-ups, a podcast and seminars are also in the works. Bligh says: "We are a complex intersection of many different ideas all cobbled together and made palatable for the intellectual as well as the philistine - with art thrown in like a fistful of glitter. Imagine Warhol's Silver Factory. It's kind of like that, but a little more fearless, less elitist. ERN purveys that it is important to be who you are shamelessly and never quite abandon yourself to reality."
Joshua Daniel Bligh, 29, holds a Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota; is the author of two novels, Cassadaga: A Saga of Love and Mysticism (released, 2009) and Lights of Jupiter (released, 2010). His work appears on several blog sites including but not limited to www.Rogueandpoet.com, and www.thealchemistweekly.com. A man of the road, Bligh has been an obituary columnist, a US soldier, a firefighter and quite possibly the worst waiter you ever had.
Lisa Gitelman, 23, holds a B.S. Chemistry, and is working towards an M.S. In soil physics at Oregon State University. Though she values science, art undeniably brings out her most creative accomplishments and is truly her raison d'etre. Her work can be found on host site: www.deviantart.lisagiggleman.com.
Bligh and Gitelman will be available for appearance/interview throughout the month of October. Please call or email.
