Neighbors Join Church of Scientology in Celebrating the 4th of July
Even a torrential rainstorm just before the fireworks could not put a damper on an evening of friendship, food and celebration of the fabulous 4th at the Church of Scientology's Oak Cove Hotel.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) July 11, 2013 - The Church of Scientology, Flag, opened the doors of the Oak Cove Hotel this 4th of July for a celebration with neighbors and friends. Nearly 70 guests assembled in the Terrace Restaurant for a special Golden Age Theater presentation, food by award-winning chefs and a share in Clearwater's spectacular waterfront fireworks display.
The event had a summer camp theme and guests were encouraged to make their own s'mores and trail mix. Guests ate outside on two terraces that overlook the Memorial Causeway Bridge and the waterfront.
The July 4th party was a casual yet elegant evening. The traditional American fare, such as burgers and hot dogs, was served alongside such treats as watermelon-basil soup and jicama-slaw.
Right at the end of the meal, the clouds poured down a heavy summer rain, which brought the guests back indoors for that evening's entertainment: the East Coast Golden Age Theater's performance of the comic cowboy tale "The Ghost Town Gun-Ghost," by L. Ron Hubbard.
This dramatic reading starred Joanie Sigal, Colin Taufer and Eric Cefail and was accompanied by music and sound effects reminiscent of an old-time radio show. Also acting in the performance were Dylan Cefail, Bridget Haggerty, Nick Hill and Aleandro Licea, who filled in roles as diverse as a Native American Indian Chief to a blood-thirsty Sheriff.
The guests were then invited to the Oak Cove Penthouse to view the Clearwater City fireworks, which were breathtaking.
"It was a very nice evening to connect with neighbors and celebrate the freedoms that our Founding Fathers postulated for us so long ago," said Pat Harney, the Public Affairs Director for the Church.
"As a native Jamaican and a now naturalized American citizen, the Fourth of July signifies a time for me when all those born or living in America give thanks for the hard-won freedoms that gave birth to this great nation," Harney added.
This is the third year in a row that the Church has had an event of this nature.
