Neighborhood Service Organization selected as Detroit-area distributor for FamilyWize discount prescription cards
NSO has been named the Detroit-area distributing partner for FamilyWize discount prescription cards, a free service for the uninsured and underinsured.
- (1888PressRelease) March 01, 2012 - DETROIT - Neighborhood Service Organization (NSO) has been named the Detroit-area distributing partner for FamilyWize discount prescription cards, a free service for the uninsured and underinsured. The cards provide an average savings of up to 35 percent or more on all prescriptions, including generics and pet medications.
Individuals seeking a card, which are valid nationwide, do not need to share personal information, eligibility requirements and income, and will not encounter fees and paperwork, such as applications.
FamilyWize is a seven-year-old community service partnership, which is available in all 50 states and at 95 percent of pharmacies in the country, all of which voluntarily accept the cards and lower the cost of the medicine.
"The card enables individuals to get the medicine they would not otherwise be able to afford," said NSO President and CEO Sheilah Clay. "We are honored that FamilyWize chose NSO to provide this much needed service to individuals and families in metro Detroit."
As of July 2011, 20 million cards have been distributed nationwide, with a total of $225 million in savings on the cost of medicine. Funding is provided by part of the dispensing fee that is included in the cost of medicines, and by in-kind donations and reduced costs from program sponsors.
