The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Hitachi, Ltd. to host launch ceremony of Japan-U.S. Island Grid Project in Maui.
- (1888PressRelease) December 19, 2013 - What: The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Hitachi, Ltd. have been conducting a Smart Grid Project in Hawaii since October 2011. A joint undertaking by the U.S. and Japan, the full-scale project demonstration will be launched at a formal ceremony on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.
WHY: On the Maui Island, Hawaii, a significant amount of the electricity supply is already generated by renewable energy. The goal of the Project is to verify cutting-edge technologies within a Smart Grid application and the utilization of large volumes of renewable energy already in place and the evaluation of contributing to smart grid standards and implementation of a low-carbon social infrastructure system that can be efficiently used in other sub-tropical regions.
