Nebraska Songwriter Takes His Magical New EP on the Road

Local Nebraskan folk musician launches a small tour and releases his newest online EP. End Quote

Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) February 24, 2011 - Local "goo grass" musician, George Burl, is hitting the road this month in support of his new EP, Nothing is Strange. With stops in Nebraska and Chicago, IL, he plans on spreading some pleasantly-frenzied folk magic across the Midwest.

The new EP is a five-track blend of earthy, humid vocals with an unsettling bluegrass charm. Burl explains his term "goo grass" as a "style of music with all the passion of bluegrass, but far less consistency." Nothing is Strange is a collection of songs born during Burl's time spent composing the soundtrack for a short film. The film, The Act, is both written and directed by New Orleans director, Bernie Slavich. With its grainy, civil-war feel, the EP would be right at home in Louisiana, amongst the sweet tea and the alligators.

The tour will blow this musical tumbleweed all the way to Chicago's Elbo Room, a venue known for its friendly staff, diverse musical offerings, and a well-loved "respectable dive" atmosphere. For this two-night endeavor, Burl will be taking the crowd favorites of the first evening and playing them on the second with a little song-related storytelling mixed right in. While he won't literally be pulling rabbits out of hats, audience members will be enthralled with the magic he brings to the venue.

As well as releasing a new EP, Burl is giving a previous EP, Arrows, a face-lift. A limited amount of 30 physical CD's complete with "hand cut artwork, remastered tracks, and at least two misspellings," are available at his bandcamp webpage.
