- (1888PressRelease) November 06, 2012 - In an attempt to stop the prevailing trend of unemployment amongst youths in Nigeria and to prepare them for opportunities in our emerging Economy, a social enterprise organization, the "Global Partners for Development Initiatives" lends its voice as it sets to host a NATIONAL YOUTH ECONOMIC SUMMIT taking place in Lagos,Nigeria.
The event, with the theme 'POSITIONING THE YOUTH FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN AN EMERGING ECONOMY' is scheduled to hold on the 29th and 30th of November at the prestigious Civic centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. And will feature renowned speakers who will be delivering contemporary lectures on key topics covering various sectors of the economy
Mr Michael Adeyeye, the project coordinator says, the summit will simulate the Nigerian Economy Summit attracting participants from all sectors of the economy and will also include interactive sessions, exhibitions and a job fair; It will host the flagging off ceremony of the National Mentorship Scheme, in which successful Entrepreneurs from all works of life take up promising young Entrepreneurs for a period of 1 year to learn, build their business acumen and network. Adeyeye, who is deeply concerned about the state of the average Nigerian youth and how to involve them in building up the Economy hints that the 2-day event will climax with an awards ceremony on the second day which is tagged NIGERIAN YOUTH MERIT AWARDS. The Awards have previously been held in Abuja, the Federal Capital but was moved to Lagos this year for strategic reasons. The aim of the Youth Merit Awards is to recognize young people who against all odds have excelled and impacted lives positively in different sectors of the economy, irrespective of their social and academic backgrounds.
Speakers and guests expected at the event include Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala - coordinating Minister of the economy. Mr yinka Akande - DG, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Ituah Ighodalo - a partner at SIAO and Olakunle Sorinyin. Others are Mosunmola Umoru - Agricultural professional, Deji Fisho - Founder of Fortis Microfinance Bank, Mr Ahmed Kuru - MD of Enterprise Bank Ltd and Gavin Tokely - Founder Innohabitat UK, sustainable(Green) Real Estate Developers.
