National Tea for NF (Neurofibromatosis) Day in Mickelton, New Jersey Raises Funds to Find Life-Saving Cure for Kids like Mickelton Resident CJ
Tea for NF is a national movement, celebrating the lives of NF heroes like CJ Hines of Mickelton, NJ.
- (1888PressRelease) June 18, 2011 - Despite the cultured title of the program, the lively and vibrant children in attendance make the event quite an active and entertaining time. Every May 1 the Foundation celebrates National Tea for NF Day and many volunteers host events on or around that day. The Tea for NF Program was started almost ten years ago by the Children's Tumor Foundation and benefits research for Neurofibromatosis.
Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder where nerve tissue grows possibly fatal tumors. Thus far, the event has raised more than $200,000 in much needed donations towards NF research. Mickelton, NJ resident and Tea for NF hostess Erica Hines likes to put a fun spin on the event, calling it "Long Island Tea for NF." Raffles and auctions of signed sports memorabilia raise money for the foundation while families gain understanding of the disease by meeting others who have fought the illness and those who have donated to the cause. Castle Windows President, Chris Cardillo, who was recently educated about the foundation and was in attendance at the event stated, "CJ has touched my heart as well as many other people, this is a foundation that my company and I will support and we ask other companies to do the same."
"CJ was born just a few months after my son Billy," says Randi Shea, a Tea for NF host. "He and Billy are best friends just like his mother and I. He's such a brave child and an inspiration to Billy and us all. We just wanted to do something to show them how much we care."
Hosted events have free food and plenty of family-friendly activities for children. The program also allows participants to share a virtual cup of tea via e-mail. E-mail recipients are encouraged to pass the message on to their friends and family in a pay-it-forward concept. Contributors donate up to $50 and ask friends and family to do the same, passing along the e-mail to five other people.
Hosting a Tea for NF is a simple way to positively impact the lives of those living with NF and raise funds for a cure while enjoying a cup of tea with friends and family. All proceeds go directly to research and patient support to better the lives of individuals living with NF. The Tea for NF program has been hosted in multiple states across the nation and continues to bring friends and family together for a good cause. Hosting an event is as easy as putting together a tea party that accommodates your available time, energy and budget. If reserving a space is difficult, virtual parties are a great alternative. Below are testimonials from a few Tea for NF hostesses.
