  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) May 04, 2011 - National Steinbeck Center located at One Main Street in Oldtown Salinas announced today the exhibition of Food and Wine Cartoons by George M. Keene in the Art & Culture Gallery from June 3rd - July 31st, 2011.
According to Cartoonist Keene, the exhibition at the National Steinbeck Center will include 45 pieces of vivid color, humor and food and wine fun for the public to view. Keene sketches each picture in pencil, ink-lines the original, and then scans the image into the computer, where he adds the color and texture to his high-gloss, archive-quality prints.

Originally from Connecticut , Keene began living in California in 1978 when he stopped off in Big Sur while traveling through the state by bike. At the time, Keene knew he wanted to be a cartoonist; his experiences as a server working in restaurants led him to his niche-- which is colorfully bringing food and wine to life coupled with a play on words. His characters include "Crushed Garlic," "Killer Chardonnay," and "Grapes With Wrath." Over the years, Keene 's work has sold to The Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa in Monterey , Wine From the Heart in Monterey , wineries, specialty stores and friends. Keene currently lives in Monterey where he continues to love drawing cartoons of food and wine.
