National Office Systems Wins Praise for Managing Weapons Storage at Fort Bliss
Efficient storage and management of U.S. Army weapons at Fort Bliss was a challenge recently solved by National Office Systems (NOS), a leading provider of storage and information management systems.
- Bethesda-Frederick-Gaithersburg, MD (1888PressRelease) January 20, 2011 - National Office Systems (NOS), the nation's leading provider of storage and information management systems, has earned stellar reviews for a project managing and storing weapons at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX.
Fort Bliss, one of the largest military installations in the world, recently acquired more than 260 weapons cabinets from Tactical Weapons Solutions, a division of NOS. The rugged steel cabinets have been customized to accommodate firearms, night goggles and other equipment housed in armories in a new on-base facility. NOS established a partnership with Cazador, an Alaskan Native American firm, to manage, integrate, deliver and install the cabinets in record time.
When finished, the NOS-Cazador project received a "stellar" review by the Contracting Officer Representative and a "highly recommended" rating for other military installations.
"The Army's selection of these weapons cabinets is based primarily upon their user-friendly design," says Joe Alvarez, NOS principal. To conserve space in the armories' limited areas, the cabinet doors are recessed to allow maximum storage of weapons and equipment. The recessed doors also eliminate injuries to staff whose fingers were often pinched by the bi-fold doors provided by a previous supplier, explains Alvarez.
Alvarez says the design allows Army staff to reconfigure a cabinet's layout on a moment's notice to efficiently store multiple weapons. "To have an M4 next to a .50 caliber, next to a bank of M9s really appeals to armory officials," he adds. NOS also was able to provide Fort Bliss with cabinets that are stronger and more rugged than those previously acquired from another leading manufacturer. "The cabinets installed were manufactured using heavier 14-gauge steel compared to the 16- or 18-gauge steel used by the former vendor," says Alvarez.
From its Montgomery County headquarters, NOS has helped companies, government agencies, professional practices and institutions improve productivity, reduce costs and save space for three decades. The firm and its New England branch, SYSTEMATICS, specialize in high density and mobile shelving, automated storage and retrieval systems, biometric asset protection, radio frequency identification applications and file-tracking and records-management software.
"Our weapons storage cabinets are top-of-the-line, and Fort Bliss officials are are extremely pleased with our installation," Alvarez says. "NOS and its entire staff are happy to support our men and women in the military on bases throughout the U.S. and abroad with top quality products."
