The Gazette of Politics and Business last week announced its P&B Exceptional 53 Awards for Maryland businesses, and ranked NOS as 34th in the state. The 2011 competition marks the fifth year for the awards program and the second year in which NOS was honored.
Criteria for the awards include a company's growth in annual revenue and number of employees, innovative products and services, efforts made to offset the economic downturn, community service and creation of a positive corporate culture.
"All NOS employees share this award," says Joe Alvarez, NOS principal. "It's gratifying for all of us to be recognized for our mission of offering the finest products and services while valuing our workers, customers and our community."
"To make the 53 list is a great accomplishment," says Cliff Chiet, publisher. "NOS was recognized for its exceptional growth during the last three years, its community service programs and the innovation shown in its latest product, Systematic Asset Management, and its installation at Fort Bliss. The Gazette is pleased to place them among the state's exceptional businesses."
Systematic Asset Management (SAM) is the first application to blend use of radio frequency identification, bar coding and color coding to automate tracking of records, furniture, documents, inventory, evidence and other assets. SAM was awarded the gold medal as Most Innovative New Technology at the NeoCon 2011 conference.
Tactical Weapons Solutions, NOS' newest division, won accolades in 2010 for an extensive installation at the new on-base armory at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. The installation was designed to accommodate firearms, night goggles and other equipment in customized weapons cabinetry, modified to enhance access and convenience.
NOS has encouraged its employees to volunteer as coaches, mentors and supporters of youth development activities. The company also has invested in training for its 49 employees to enhance their professional and personal development, including English lessons for those speaking other languages. Company-wide social events, incentives and an attitude of respect for all employees have made NOS an exceptional place to work.
For three decades, NOS has provided traditional and technology-based space- and records-management solutions to allow companies, agencies, professional practices, organizations and institutions to increase productivity and save space. Services offered by NOS/Systematics include records-management consulting, customized storage design, bar code and RFID tracking, records-management software, document imaging and customized electronic records software. The firm also specializes in state-of-the-art storage products, such as mobile shelving systems, high density units and filing supplies.
