- Syracuse, NY (1888PressRelease) August 19, 2015 - Margaret Thompson Reece, PhD, Founder of Reece Biomedical Consulting, LLC, has been selected as an Honored Member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals.
Graduating from the University of California at Davis in 1982 with a PhD in Physiology, Margaret Thompson Reece began her career as a basic scientist. In her first role as a postdoctoral fellow in the Research Department of the San Diego Zoo, she concentrated her efforts on the impact of plant estrogens in the diet of the zoo's lion-tailed Macaque monkeys, the only endangered species of Old World Monkeys.
Ms. Reece most recently served as Chief Scientific Officer at Serometrix, LLC, a biotechnology company that discovered a novel platform for developing new lead compounds for the pharmaceutical industry. Leading in the discovery of new drug molecules for cholesterol management and prostate cancer, she also founded Reece Biomedical Consulting, LLC in 2006, which is expanding its efforts into the world of independent publishing. Publishing and marketing topic focused textbooks authored by Ms. Reece for college students struggling to learn medical science, she also authors and maintains a website that provides such students worldwide with tips and strategies for getting the high grades they need to be accepted into healthcare professional training programs.
Authoring two books to date, including 'Physiology: Custom-Designed Chemistry, Getting Past the Anxiety that Physiological Chemistry is Too Hard to Learn', 2012; and 'Inside the Closed World of the Brain, How Brain Cells Connect, Share, and Disengage and Why This Holds the Key to Alzheimer's Disease, 2015, both books are available at bookstores, online, and worldwide through the Ingram catalog.
"Professionally, I want to expand my reach worldwide for mentoring students interested in medical sciences," Ms. Reece said. "The internet opened global opportunities in education. I also believe students in the US need better, organized, and more up-to-date books from which to learn physiology. Students are shunning the current textbooks because they are heavy, hard to read, and largely out of date by the time they are published. The world of publication has changed greatly over the last few years, creating opportunities for independent publishers to fill student needs. I want to be at the cutting edge of what is new in learning resources for my field."
A 1981 recipient of the Irving I. Hertzendorf Memorial Award in Physiology through the University of California at Davis, it is presented each year to one physiology PhD student in recognition of outstanding qualities as a scholar and humanitarian. It is one of Ms. Reece's proudest professional accomplishment thus far.
