- Colorado Springs, CO (1888PressRelease) May 13, 2015 - Joseph H. Petroni, Assistant Chief Engineer with KKTV 11 News, has been selected as an Executive of the Year Member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Joseph H. Petroni enlisted in the US Army as a technician/mechanic at the age of 17 in 1983. Retiring from the military in 2005 after 23 years of service, he was hired as a telecommunications manager for Quest Communications (now CentruyLink), where he remained for six years. He then worked for NCR Corporation for four years as a territory manager. In March 2015, he was hired to work for KKTV as their assistant chief engineer.
In his current role, Mr. Petroni maintains local information technology operations, assists and advises the chief engineer in planning for future equipment installation, requirements, and budgetary recommendations, installs and rebuilds computers, repairs broadcast equipment and broadcast facilities, and supports station events, such as breaking news, weather events, parades, and remote camera systems.
"My position requires someone that is mechanically inclined with experience in IT and broadcast technology," Mr. Petroni said. "My background and experience includes many years in technical and mechanical roles, which not only assisted here but also in my previous professions. As such, everyone's desire should be to hone the skills necessary to create value for your employer, even if you work for yourself."
The position that Mr. Petroni holds now is the most interesting and intriguing position he has ever held. With intentions to retire with KKTV, he plans to continue both on-the-job training and continuing education to keep his skills sharp for the remainder of his career. He also intends to remain involved in his community and, hopefully, accept a chief engineer position in the future.
