William Patton Schoenfeld began his career in 1969 as a mechanical engineer in heat transfer and fluid mechanics. By 1979 he had moved into aerospace systems engineering to support mission and trajectory design on the Venus Orbiting Imaging Radar (VOIR) launched as the Magellan spacecraft.

Now doing consulting work as the principal of Schoenfeld Engineering, Mr. Schoenfeld performs aerospace systems performance analysis and optimization in aerodynamics, propulsion, and mission design for rocket vehicles. His vast experience in missile aerodynamics, CFD modeling, wind tunnel testing and propulsion system analysis, including ground testing, and flight testing all contribute to his abilities to provide the best solutions for clients.

"In 1957, when the international geophysical year (IGY) and development of space transportation and mission systems took place, I really became inspired to pursue a career in engineering. I hope to continue in the development of space transportation systems for years to come, in particular hypersonic flight and space planes," Mr. Schoenfeld said.

Mr. Schoenfeld holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University. He also did graduate coursework in applied physics, aerospace engineering, computational fluid dynamics, and systems engineering. During his career, he has performed six degree of freedom simulations, fluid dynamics modeling and analysis for aerodynamics and propulsion systems performance - verification and validation. He was the chief aerodynamicist at Holloman High Speed Test Track for the hypersonic upgrade program and lead aerodynamics and trajectory analyst for the ATK Hypersonic Test Vehicle, Advanced Technology Engineering Demonstrator, and ATK Launch Vehicles. Mr. Schoenfeld is a current member of The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and was section chair for the southwest section of the AIAA. He has been published in several AIAA conference journals and co-authored papers published in the international society for optics and photonics - SPIE, and served as co-chair for several Tri-Service Heatshield Technology conference sessions.
