National Association of Distinguished Professionals Selects Laura Katz Rizzo as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Online Registry

- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) August 04, 2014 - Laura Katz Rizzo, Assistant Professor of Dance at Temple University, has been selected as an Honored Member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals.
Laura Katz Rizzo began her career in higher education in 1999 after accepting a position of visiting artist at Mount Holyoke College. Previously, she spent 10 years dancing professionally and teaching for numerous classical, neoclassical, and contemporary companies and schools.
Now an assistant professor of dance at Temple University, Ms. Katz Rizzo oversees course/curriculum design, course/BFA program administration, teaching, advising, choreographing, writing, and doing research.
"I have professional experience in the dance world that stretches long before my entering academia," Ms. Katz Rizzo said. "My greatest inspiration has been in those that have been able to articulate in written, verbal, and embodied ways their values and artistic vision as dance artists."
Ms. Katz Rizzo holds a BA in History and English from the University of New Mexico and a PhD in Dance from Temple University. She is certified in ABT's NTC and the Vaganova Method of Ballet Pedagogy. She has also trained as a historian and gender studies scholar, is experienced in both choreography and teaching, and is a published author and contributor to academic and popular journals, such as Dance Chronicle, Dance Teacher Magazine, and Playbill Magazine.
Hoping to achieve tenure at her university, Ms. Katz Rizzo desires to publish more journal articles and books, attain a Fulbright to travel and do research in Cape Town, South Africa, present choreography at national and international venues, and serve as a national and international guest teaching master classes in dance history and practice. She has previously served as guest teacher and lecturer at the University of Utah's Department of Ballet, served as master teacher at the Yale Ballet Company, and has presented at many national and international dance studies conferences, including SDHS, CORD, and CORPS de Ballet, of which she is currently serving on the board of directors. She has also received numerous accolades in her field, including Distinguished Teacher of the Year at Esther Boyer College of Music and several Meritorious Achievement Awards from 2010-13.
