- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) April 06, 2014 - Michael D. Sherburne, Owner of Modern Day Sensations, has been selected as an Honored Member of the National Association of Distinguished Professionals. The selection recognizes Michael D. Sherburne's commitment to excellence in Photography and Outdoor Portraits.
Michael D. Sherburne, who is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, founded his business in January 2013 as the sole owner.
Turning his passion into a career, Mr. Sherburne does most of his photo shoots outdoors. He also handles the administration side, including accounting, marketing, and other services. He's been able to decrease the time spent doing the administration side of the business, however, by developing his own software to do the accounting and legal paperwork for him.
"Knowledge in engineering has helped me to develop my own unique methods at no cost," Mr. Sherburne said. "Networking has also been a large, contributing influence in finding clients and receiving help for my business. But developing a plan and sticking to it has been the biggest factor."
Upon completion of his BSEE, Mr. Sherburne plans to commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He then would like to work in the aeronautical and aerospace industries after a career in the Air Force, and possibly open up an engineering business of his own. He will still continue his photo business on the side, as well as advocate for aerospace funding and STEM education, which he is also passionate about. He would also like to continue volunteering with Boy Scouts of America and working on humanitarian projects worldwide.
Mr. Sherburne is a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship recipient and was selected to be in the 2014 cohort of 21st Century Studies where the program travels to Morocco, Turkey, and Sri Lanka for research and immersion in purposes. He is a member of Golden Key International Honor Society, is on Virginia Tech's Dean's List, and is an Eagle Scout. He and his teammate are also the recipients of $1,000 from ALCOA Foundation received at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for their efforts in studying the effects of plasma on metals for electro-propulsion applications. They also won $5,000 from Northrop Grumman at the regional science fair.
