Nashville Entertainer, Skyla Spencer, pens her debut children's illustrated character series
Celebrity line-dance teacher, song-writer and singer now children's author, Ms. Skyla Spencer has crafted a literary magical adventure character series title, Skyla's Hat Adventures: The Magic of Discovery.
- (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2014 - Drawing on powerful childhood memories in West Virginia, Skyla enchants young minds with fantasy magic fictional accounts of a little girl ready for adventure. She finds trying on her beloved grandmother's collection of hats, results in original quests as unique as the hats she explores. Each title in the series features a complementing CD with songs and musical accompaniments written and sung by Skyla. Each emphasizes the emotional impact of the narrative and involves children's dance and/or movement exercises. The books and CDs are designed to be used together; however, either will entertain young readers as stand-alone resources too.
In "The Magic of Discovery," a bright pink cowgirl hat in Grandma Pauline's collection lures little Skyla. When the hat settles gently onto her head, she finds herself grown up and backstage at the Grand Ole Opry about to be called into the spotlight. The young girl's dream is coming to life. "My Grandma Pauline taught me that dreams can come true," Skyla says. "This book is a tribute to her love of hats and my memories of her and Grandpa Glenn." Skyla was born and raised in West Virginia among a close-knit family of her parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in Upshur County. The first in what Ms. Spencer plans to be a series of traveling hat adventures, provides readers with a glimpse of musical lore with a history brief for the Grand Ole Opry. Each title will feature a true-to-life factoid to not only entertain but also educate young readers. Additionally, the magical ingredients of memories, music and stage will charm readers of all ages when they open "Skyla's Hat Adventures: The Magic of Discovery" to settle in for reading and listening pleasure.
In the book, Skyla's music is showcased through three songs she wrote and recorded in Nashville, TN at a home studio. Co-produced with James Hedden, of Grey Wolf Studio, the songs, are "Dream A Dream," "Put On A Hat," and "Reach For The Stars." Background vocals are performed by Tecia Hedden. "Reach For the Stars," is a song Skyla wrote, recorded, and released on her first country album in 2005. This is a second version, with new lyrics, Skyla created to send a powerful message to children all over the world. Skyla stated, "It is my hope children will listen not just to the beat of the music but to the lyrics as well. And, that they will learn them and sing along. Most importantly, I hope the lyrics will have a positive impact children and remain with them throughout their lives."
In her current hometown of Nashville, Skyla wears the many hats of a successful business-woman. Most evenings she can be found at the World Famous Wildhorse Saloon teaching line dances to locals and tourists alike. Skyla also sings/performs, writes music, dances, choreographs production pieces, acts, models and does voice-over work. Skyla's body of work includes television appearances on ABC, CMT, TLC and GAC, starring in music videos and commercials, performing at NFL games and teaching dance throughout area. Publications such as Country Weekly, Power Source, Skope, Music Row magazine, New Music Weekly, CMA Close Up and many more have written about her rising star. In 2011, she was voted as one of the top three celebrities for Toast of Music City and was nominated again this year. She has had radio hit success overseas and in 2009 she was nominated by New Music Weekly for Breakthrough Artist of the Year for her single "This Girl," a song she co-wrote to empower girls to chase their dreams.
