New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2008 - Here we go again! Invitations for the 2nd Annual International Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament have been sent out to over 32 Tri-State football teams representing 15 countries for the upcoming summer showdown. This annual tournament which is hosted by Nasare Sports Foundation is aimed at organizing and promoting sporting and fitness events in the international and minority communities across the United States has been highly touted and anticipated by many soccer loving fans. The International Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament promises to bring together soccer players and fans from all corners of the globe for a spectacular three weekend tournament in July. Last years event which was one of the highlights of the Ghana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in North America paid tribute to Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah during the country’s historical 50th year celebrations. Since then tournament has been renamed the International Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament to broaden the appeal of the game to other internationals in the tri-state area who have been eager to join in on the fun.
Registration for the tournament is now open to all age groups and can be done online at www.nasare.com . The format of the Challenge Cup is similar to that of the nation’s cup, with 16 teams split into 4 groups A, B, C, and D for the preliminary rounds. The top two teams from each group (based on points) will then enter the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and then the finals. The preliminary rounds will be played on July 12 -13 and July 19-20th with quarter finals and semi-finals being held on July 26th and the final extravaganza will be played on July 27th. For a chance to compete against the areas top soccer talent make sure to register your team before June 1st 2008 when the registration period closes. Thus far, committed teams for the tournament are Da Bronx FC, Chelsea FC, FC Manor, Friends Soccer FC, and Yankassa FC, and the LIU All Stars.
Now that the weather in the New York area is conducive to outdoor training clubs have now began preparing for the upcoming showdown by opening up their practices for new-comers to showcase their skills.
