Narconon Louisiana Volunteers At The Cinderella Project Dress Giveaway in Baton Rouge
Narconon Louisiana shows their support for The Cinderella Project Dress Giveaway by sending volunteers to assist in this year's event set-up to ensure high school juniors and seniors find their perfect Prom dress.
- Baton Rouge, LA (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2012 - Narconon Louisiana (http://www.drugabusesolution.com/) staff and students volunteered at the 5th annual Cinderella Project Dress Giveaway held at a Baton Rouge YMCA on March 24, 2012. The Narconon volunteers donated their time and creativity turning the YMCA gymnasium into a ball gown showroom where high school junior and senior girls in financial need could get a prom dress.
One of The Cinderella Project's most successful projects is their Annual Prom Dress Drive and Giveaway during which they collect donated evening gowns and provide them to high school students who could not otherwise afford them.
The Cinderella Project Dress Giveaway is open to high school students statewide who are in financial need of a prom dress. Students from 40 local high schools in 11 parishes attend the event each year and receive a prom dress.
Narconon Louisiana staff and student volunteers prepared for the event; sorting and sizing dresses, setting up dressing rooms with full length mirrors as well as placing gowns on displays, turning the YMCA gymnasium into a ball gown boutique. Over 1500 dresses were displayed for the teens to choose from. "Being a part of something that is so significant in a young woman's life was amazing! I remember my own prom and being able to help someone make their dreams come true was truly moving. It was an honor," said J.C., one of the volunteers from Narconon Louisiana.
Founded in January 2008 in Baton Rouge, The Cinderella Project is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. The group collects donations of gently used dresses and monetary contributions, to provide free prom dresses to junior and senior high school students.
Junior and senior high school students who are in financial need are welcome to attend the donation event. No referrals or applications are required. A valid high school ID is required for students, and students must be accompanied by a female parent or guardian. Upon registration, students will receive a 30-minute shopping appointment.
The Cinderella Project's founders Shelton Jones and Sarah Dupree have received praises from parents and young girls alike and have even received assistance from Louisiana's First Lady. Their goal is to provide educational outreach and community-based projects that are designed to empower young women with increased self-confidence and to instill an appreciation for community service and the importance of giving back.
