Naples Capital is seeking to acquire 1000 screens to become the fifth largest cinema exhibition company in America. Dennis Fogarty, NCM's managing member says "we believe the time is ripe to put together a number of exhibitors to form a formidable force in exhibition. There is much efficiency to be gained by merging a number of regional cinema chains."
Cinema exhibition continues to draw large numbers of customers to their movie houses. Over 1.3 billion tickets are sold annually in the U. S. There are many new and exciting elements driving the cinema business including digital delivery of movies, a broadening number of 3-D releases and VIP auditoriums serving food and alcohol.
Fogarty believes now is the time to acquire theaters. He notes, "Many smaller owners are feeling the pinch of the metrics of running 100-300 screen operations. They are largely reliant on Hollywood delivering a blockbuster slate of films each year. In 2010 the films disappointed movie goers and exhibitor P&L's suffered.
Fogarty has found that consolidating corporate overhead, driving non-movie revenues, offering movie attendees non-movie entertainment like lectures, concerts, and the like, all increase bottom line revenue.
NMC is in active discussion with two theater chains and has had informal talks with several more. NCM hopes to close its first acquisition in time for the summer season.
