Myanmar Begins Minimum Labeling Requirements for Priority Consumer Products

  • (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2019 - On April 26, 2019, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar put into effect minimum labeling requirements for a wide variety of priority consumer products.

    Published by the Department of Consumer Affairs as Directive No.1/2019, it states that the requirements are for the safety of consumers and must follow the list of consumer goods included in Notification No. 1/2018, published on October 26, 2018.

    The label must be in the Myanmar language and must contain:

    • Directions for use
    • Storage information
    • Allergy alerts and/or warnings
    • Possible side effects (if applicable)

    Myanmar considers products in the following categories to be priority products:

    • Food and beverages
    • Household products
    • Children items
    • Telecommunication equipment
    • Drugs and supplements
    • Chemicals
    • Cosmetics
    • Toiletries
    • Other equipment – e.g. agricultural tools or fitness equipment
