My Girlfriend's House celebrates the 4th Annual Purse Strings for My Girlfriend's Drive by collecting 800 purses and filling them with 15 personal care and beauty items to donate to women and teen girls living in shelters throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) September 12, 2013 - My Girlfriend's House is excited to launch the 4th Annual Purse Strings for My Girlfriend's Drive. The annual fundraiser seeks the support of the community and corporate sponsors to collect 800 purses and fill them with 15 different personal care and beauty items to donate to women and teen girls living in homeless shelters.
In the four short years since its founding, the Purse Strings Program has played a major role in the empowerment of at-risk teen girls and women, impacting over 5,000 women in the DC, MD and VA region. The program has addressed a major issue in the community: homelessness and health education.
"I'm happy to be a part of such an impactful program that allows the community to selflessly give back to the women and teens that need it the most", Founder and Executive Director Veronica Eyenga shared. "Each year we've surpassed our goal of 800 purses and I'm confident that we will continue that growing trend."
The drive is one of three initiatives under the organization's Purse Strings for My Girlfriends Program, a year-long effort dedicated to empowering an impoverished community of teenage girls and women to help enhance their self-esteem and confidence. The organization spent the past 2 months looking for companies and individuals that were willing to pledge products. Once all of the purses are collected, they will wrap up the drive with a huge Purse Stuffing Party in November which allows volunteers to come together and prepare all of the purses to be distributed to 35 shelters in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
"The success of this drive would not be possible without the help of the community," Eyenga admitted. "We are still accepting pledges for products until the 15th of October for anyone who is willing to assist in our efforts."
The official launch date of the Purse Drive is October 1st and will last until the 31st of the month. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the organization's Clubhouse located at 9244 East Hampton Drive, Suite 621 in Capitol Heights, MD.
