beyondMUSIC celebrates their one year anniversary by expanding the Music Speaks program to twenty three classes. Music Speaks is an early childhood music program that provides developmentally appropriate music for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children, ages 0 through 4 1/2 years old. The music program uses a mix of traditional and contemporary songs with a world beat bringing out the innate musical nature of young children. Parents interact with their children and live music in sessions aimed at expanding creativity, bonding, and the proven cognitive development gained by introducing children to music at a young age.
Wendy Bain, the Program Director for Music Speaks has expanded the popular mommy and me classes by naming Janie Alania and Soni Conville as two new music teachers to the program. They are veteran teachers, each of them bringing years of experience working with children in arts education.
The 2012 Spring Program begins Sunday, April 1st and runs through Friday, June 8th. The FREE trial class for the spring program is Wednesday, March 21st at 10:00 AM. The Summer Program is set to begin Monday, June 25 and run through Sunday, August 12th. The classes run for 45 minutes, and are designed to introduce musically driven activities such as chants, finger plays, and small and large movements using a variety of age appropriate musical instruments. The classes allow children and their parents/caregivers to explore, learn and discover the wonders and benefits of music!
The theater brought together musical volunteers including Broadway vocalist, Kelli Agresta, program director Wendy Bain, Director of Education at bergenPAC Alexander Diaz, as well as side men from New Jersey based bands including Bon Jovi and Southside Johnny who all volunteered their time to create songs for Music Speaks Volume II, a new CD that will be given out to enrolled families.
Music Speaks is part of bergenPAC's beyondEDUCATION program, offering arts enrichment to over 30,000 (75 classes combined) young people throughout northern New Jersey each year. Through this program, world class artists offer opportunities for master classes and performances. Scholarships allow this program, like all other education programs at bergenPAC, to ensure no child is turned away because of an inability to pay.
