Music and Artist Born in the '60's Spin Together During 3rd Annual Woodstock Weekend
July 9 & 10, 2011 - Groovy tribute bands, art, family fun and more all in one place - the Orange County Market Place brings affordable all-day fun for all during Woodstock Weekend.
- (1888PressRelease) June 23, 2011 - Costa Mesa, CA -- Just like the legendary 1969 concert, music and art will be the focus during the 3rd Annual Woodstock Tribute, a two day fest at the Orange County Market Place, the swap meet at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds.
On Saturday, July 9 Woodstock Mud,a four member San Diego area based band, will perform a tribute to Crosby, Stills and Nash at noon followed at 2 p.m. with The Who Revue, a band which recreates the sounds, the look, and the energy of The Who at their peak including the power vocals and microphone twirling of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend's acrobatic windmills and leaps, Keith Moon's out-of-control drumming and comical antics, and the thundering bass virtuosity of 'The Ox', John Entwistle.
On Sunday, July 10, Aquarius '68, formerly the Summer of Love, performs at noon and 2 p.m. The six member band recreates the actual vibe, sound and feel, including costume changes, of several rock legends from 1969's Woodstock including Janis Joplin, John Fogerty, Sly Stone, Jim Hendrix and Arlo Guthrie to name a few.
In addition to music, both days will include free face painting, gourmet food trucks, hippie stilt walkers, tie dye vendors, crafters and artisans.
Featured among the artists is special guest, Martin Vogel. Born in the 1960's, Vogel channeled his energy early in life as a world-class motorcycle racer . In 1986 a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed from the chest down. Undaunted he rolled out of rehab and by 1987 he pioneered a technique that allows him to transform his wheelchair into a paintbrush and drawing tool . But his broken spinal cord didn't keep him from racing either. In 1991 ,Vogel reached World Champion as a wheelchair racer. Speed and "chaos" as he references it remain in his life, and show up in his art.
His colorful spin on life takes shape on canvasses, painting everything from the abstract to simple symbols such as flowers, hearts, stars and peace signs. Vogel, who currently resides in Pasadena, will be at the Market Place both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. demonstrating his painting technique and showing a variety of his finished work.
Admission to the Market Place is FREE with a canned food donation to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. All events are held in conjunction with the regular swap meet activity, which features nearly 1,000 merchants offering a variety of products and services.
The Orange County Market Place will be closed during the Orange County Fair's five week run: July 15 through August 14. Hours when operating are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2 (or free with a canned food item during Woodstock Weekend) and free for kids 12 and under.
