  • (1888PressRelease) July 29, 2012 - Irvine, CA - Muli Children's International Education Program (MCIEP) will hold their 501(c)(3) launch party on July 28, 2012 at RBF Consulting, an engineering firm located in Irvine, California

The event will introduce the board of directors, give an overview of the MCIEP scholarship program for underprivileged students in developing countries, and raise funds for the upcoming school year. This fundraiser is a celebration of the recently acquired non-profit status 501(c)(3) and most importantly marks the "beginning" of a fierce war aimed at eradicating illiteracy among the less fortunate young citizens of the world, "the kids". "We are so excited to kick off our organization", said co-founder Tim Muli, "my wife and I dreamed of this day and now it is happening and we are creating a better future for kids in Kenya and eventually all of Africa and the world. One child at time"

Tim and his wife Dorothy have been assisting students with their personal funds ever since they moved to the United States from Kenya. Their friends and co-workers encouraged them to start a non-profit so they could raise more funds and help more students. To-date, MCIEP has helped ten students and will start 2013 with eleven. Our goal is to make scholarships available to all qualifying kids in the entire Kenya, within the next five years. Kenyan schools have three school terms each year with about a month recess in between. Grade schools and especially secondary school education can be expensive for a poor family in Kenya. The average tuition fees per term are approximately $80.00.

Dorothy Muli recalls, "It's sad to see kids pulled out of school during the term because their parents cannot afford to pay. Learning is interrupted and the future in is jeopardy". MCIEP pays the school fees directly to the schools. The children are thrilled when they receive their award letters from MCIEP. Tim Muli reports on a recent trip where he personally delivered an award letter to a student, "She cried she was so happy".

Funds raised will go toward the upcoming 2013 school year, to support the current roster of ten students and to grant scholarships to incoming applications. Qualified applicants will have a C+ or better grade average and are in jeopardy of having to quit school because their family cannot afford to pay the school fees. Schools attended by the children MCIEP supports include St. John's High School, Kangii, Gategi Girls Secondary School, and Mbonzuki Secondary School.
