Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2010 - The glamour, vivacity and allure of the legendary Moulin Rouge kicked off Atlanta Ballet's 81st season Friday, October 22 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, as thousands turned out for the southeastern premiere opening weekend.
Critics and audience members alike applauded Moulin Rouge:
• "…fantastic dancing/choreography from Jorden Morris, who artfully blended classical ballet style with the exciting French Cancan and the tempting tango!" - Wendy Rutherford, Exploring Atlanta Blog
• "Visually stunning and impeccably costumed, Jorden Morris' "Moulin Rouge - The Ballet" merges French can-can dancing and sultry tango with a tidy, classical ballet style. Atlanta Ballet's strong, vigorous classical dancing and generous individual personalities suit the richness and vibrancy of Belle Epoque Paris."" - Cynthia Perry, ArtsCriticAtl

• "Moulin Rouge The Ballet is a visual extravaganza. From the brilliance of the set design and dynamic lighting to the rich styling of the costumes. Jorden Morris, the choreographer, is a creative genius to have successfully interpreted this famous story in dance." - Vincent Martinez, Fashionado.net
• "This show seemed like some sort of freaky, honed laser-beam aimed at the pleasure center of the brains of Atlanta theater-goers... It's hard to imagine a nicer, sweeter evening at the theater during the next couple weeks, so just allez-y already!" - Andrew Alexander, Creative Loafing
The production is the original creation (not based on the 2001 Baz Luhrmann movie) of renowned Canadian choreographer Jorden Morris, who plots his full-length ballet in the late 1880s when the Moulin Rouge first opened its doors.
Atlanta Ballet is the first company in the United States to perform Moulin Rouge since its world premiere by Royal Winnipeg Ballet last fall.
