- Port St. Lucie-Fort Pierce, FL (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2013 - Mothers, daughters or any women interested in learning to fish are invited to get away for a weekend of fishing and fun. This year's Treasure Coast award winning "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!"® University falls on Mother's Day weekend, May 10-12, 2013 in Stuart, FL. The perfect Mother's day gift for aspiring lady anglers, this experience offers quality time where mothers and daughters can learn, share and have fun fishing together. Held in conjunction with support from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the weekend event offers educational fishing activities, networking and an optional charter fishing trip, with events held at Pirates Cove Resort & Marina.
The University events kick off with the Harbor Financial networking happy hour at Pirates Cove on Friday evening, May 10, from 6-8 pm. The classroom portion starts at 8:00 am on Saturday, where fishing techniques will be taught at beginner and intermediate/advanced levels in the morning. Fishing topics and speakers are: Rod and Reel Basics, Inshore and fly fishing and Offshore/Bottom fishing. Instructors include Captains Marcia Foosaner, Melinda Buckley, George Mittler and more.
After lunch and "Dress for Fishing Success" Fishing Fashion Show, the women will participate in several "hands-on" fishing stations, such as conservation techniques, spin casting, net casting, landing and releasing, trailer backing, fly casting, knot tying, gaffing grapefruits, boat handling and reeling against pressure, until 4:30 pm. On Sunday, participants have the option to practice their newly learned skills from either a bay/river, offshore or group boat, followed by a fillet demonstration. Tackle is included in the charter fishing trips.
"This is a unique opportunity where women can spend quality time together without having to cook or clean," commented Founder, Betty Bauman. Year after year, participants praise the program and share the experience with fellow female anglers. "Now I can fish off my own boat and know what I am doing!" exclaimed Stacey Lurie, Bay Harbor, FL. Georgia Allen, Bonita Springs, FL added, "I learned more about fishing in two days than from my dad in 20 years!"
Featured on national network television and more, the series is held in conjunction with the FWC through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, with major partners such as Ranger, Mercury, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Fishhound.com and Magic Tilt Trailers.
